Canyon: A Majestic Homage to Nature

Artistic Vase Design Inspired by Canyon Terrain

In a stunning fusion of art and technology, designers Eason Yang, Bryan Leung, and Amanda Lin have crafted the Canyon, a vase design that pays tribute to the majesty of nature. The design, which won the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2021, is a testament to the innovative possibilities of metal craftsmanship and laser cutting technology.

The Canyon vase draws its inspiration from the layered terrain of canyons, symbolizing the earth's transformation over hundreds of millions of years. This concept is beautifully translated into a three-dimensional form through the stacking of layered sheet metal, creating a textured surface that mimics the rugged beauty of a canyon. The result is a design that is as majestic as the natural phenomenon it represents.

What sets the Canyon apart from other designs is its unique combination of metal craftsmanship and canyon imagery. The vase is not merely a container for flowers but an artistic sculpture that can stand alone in any space. The layered metal creates different visual possibilities from every angle, enhancing the interaction between the vase and its environment.

The Canyon vase is realized through precise calculation and modeling using a computer 3D program. Over 400 sheets of sheet metal of varying thicknesses are cut using laser cutting technology. Each piece is unique in shape and size, and laser marking technology is used to determine the position of each piece. The pieces are then polished and coated before being stacked and combined using laser fiber welding technology.

The technical specifications of the Canyon vase are as follows: Material: 304 Stainless Steel, Surface Treatment: Titanium Plating, PVD, Weight: 8 kg, Size: L200mm x W120mm x H400mm. The vase is a product of meticulous design and craftsmanship, reflecting the designers' deep respect for nature and their commitment to pushing the boundaries of traditional metal processing methods.

The Canyon vase is a testament to the power of design and technology in creating art that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. It is a reminder of the endless possibilities that can be achieved when designers dare to challenge the status quo and seek inspiration from the world around them. The Canyon vase is more than just a container for flowers; it is a piece of art that pays tribute to the majesty of nature and the innovative spirit of design.
